I'm almost 100% lurker on this site, but I wanted to tell you that this post made me cry. Well played.

And yes, I like everyone else don't feel bad for you for cheating. If you were bored go play something else and don't ruin it for everyone else.

Unoriginal it may be but it doesn't make it any less true. There aren't as many players as their used to be. It's a fact. Because the game is old...

And it seems to me the point of this thread is about how the population of the game has recently dropped. Well it's already been low because it's old. It's all I'm sayin.

Only thing I wanna say about this entire topic is that.. I understand where OP is coming from as far as repeating the same achievements on multiple characters as not being fun anymore, and can understand the desire to bot. However it doesn't excuse botting, which ruins other people's fun.

I came back to Guild Wars after years of mostly inactivity, I'd completed each campaign and EotN on one single character, and Prophecies on a second character. Because I came back fresh and things were somewhat fairly novel again, I had fun, going through each campaign and EotN again.

However, when I got to the end, and wanted to do DoA and other end game content, and learned that I couldn't find groups for it as an elementalist (at least not as an elementalist using elementalist skills), so I had to pick up my low level ritualist, and do all the campaigns again, only a week after I'd completed them on the other character. I ended up completing Proph 4 times in all, Factions twice, and Nightfall and EotN 3 times within a relatively short period of time.

Now as I'm having to go through Proph missions on my Rit in order to reach tombs of primeval kings, and get infused to do the newer shining blade bounties. I'm not having fun doing the Proph campagin, it feels like going through the motions, been there, done that, very boring, unengaging because of the repetition, and and it makes a grind out of what was supposed to not be a grind.

The design concept of Guild Wars was always to make a game where you didn't have to do boring stuff in order to get to the fun stuff, you could just jump right into the fun stuff.

However for some players, who'd like to play certain classes after already doing a different class, it becomes exactly what Anet didn't want it to become.

Anet does seem to realize this however and that's why they're really working on GW2's events system, to make progressing each character a meaningfully different experience each time, so you never feel like you're just "going through the motions" to max a title, or get to somewhere.

to clarify, they didnt ban 3700 PLAYERS/PEOPLE
they banned 3700 ACCOUNTS
majority of the banned players have more than 5 accounts, and quite a few had more than 10 and a small minority with just a bit over 100 accounts

we probably just banned like... 1000 people? around there? give or take

I could give less of a crap if you bot in PVE.

PVP bots need to be banned.

And they were.

SO I'm happy.

ALL HAIL ANET!

No worse a ghost town than any 5 year game. I am not seeing much loss of activity. My guild lost 1 out of 90 odd actives. I am happy with the outcome.

I really do love all the pent up anger coming from the folks who got the perma-ban. the threats of Anet losing money because they are not in game make me giggle. you payed them already, they lost nothing(you however did lose what you paid for). the game lost nothing, you are 3700 accounts that weren't actually playing either. as a matter of fact thank you, because thats less server space being taken up for nothing. I understand that you all feel you should be allowed to play the game as you desire. great, so do those of us that did not break the very clear rules! come on, you cheated, you got caught, time to move to the next game that you have no desire to actually play. I hear there is a new hello kitty game with a wicked strawberry picking bot! go go go!

Um, since when did a mere 3700 accounts become half of the populous?

If you say that Anet doesn't care about the game anymore because of GW2, then you're a raving idiot. Anet gave players a chance to treasure their characters in the next game through the HoM. They still add content for those pple playing now. The fact that a lot of people left is because they've done everything, but new pple buy the game too. And if you've done everything and are bored, just move on, don't bot. All the people i see qq'ing over gw 'dying' are these pple who care only about titles and being the best. They don't care about the game, the detail, the story. Anet has its flaws, who doesn't? But the festivals, the war in kryta, the funny dialogues, the designs, you can see the love they puts in this game everywhere. If you can't, then again, raving idiot.

+1 I paid for the games, the content they added has always been free for me, I've spent 5 years in this game, no complaints. for every player that leaves, there are new ones daily, for every botter that was banned, we gained server speed. Anet has yet to do wrong by me

Who cares? 3700 Individual accounts are now banned from playing and causing problems. I'm glad these people owned more than one account, their tears can hit the ground even harder now.

If they are lying you can trace back their posts for inconsistencies especially if they are posting multiple threads. Give a liar enough rope and he will hang themselves. Let them keep posting.

For the last 3 years the NPD survey has had Guild Wars as the 3rd most played mmo.
#1 WoW
#2 Runescape
#3 Guild wars

2007, 2008, 2009.

Dungeons & Dragons Online just got #3 for 2010 and good for them.

3700 players = half of GW population? Lol, Fail.
You Bot? Fail.
You come here to get "Sympathy for the Cheaters" Fail.

p.s. the way the survey was done is: 20,000 gamers were asked what are you playing.
sry I don't have the link. Should be easy to find. I got this information from the Newest Virgin Worlds Episode.(a podcast)

Irrelevant in the large scheme of things, but this'll probably get locked anyways. We all know Blizzard invented MMOs. They also came up with Elves, Orcs, Talking Trees, Minotaurs, Magic and Paladins.
Lol wutz? Elves and orcs and talking trees and minotaurs and magc and paladins. Soz if that was sarcasm but seriously...

the concept of magic ahs beena round since humans, orcs was Tolkien's Invention... paladins was an age old Christian thing, minotaurs... from memorya greek/roman myth?? Elves... well that just... i mean... the way they are in Wow was tolkien, the name was like... Medievil?

Again apologies if that was sarcasm... but if it wasn't your a fool.
